KEY POINTS:
DR. PHIL MCGRAW: But then all of a sudden something triggered you where you said, no, I'm not going to do this anymore.
Amy Porterfield: It was actually a very specific moment in time. So I was working for Tony for about six years and I was getting paid well. I got to travel. I was a director, so I had a team around me. On paper. It was a really good job. // Tony decided to do a focus group of some type and he brought in a bunch of online business owners. Now they needed someone to take notes for the meeting, so this is very humbling. I was brought in to take notes. I sat at a side table and all these guys came in. They were all men, and they sat at this big oak table in our offices in San Diego, California. // Now, these guys were in all these different areas like real estate, relationship building, investing, so many different markets. But they all talked about freedom. They were working when they wanted, where they wanted, and how they wanted.
Amy Porterfield: I realized for the first time in my life, I have never been free. // I don't know what these guys are doing, but I'm going to figure this out. I need to be my own boss.
DR. PHIL MCGRAW: And did you decide at the time that there was something to being your own boss that you pick up somewhere that had not been shared with you? Because saying you want to be your own boss
DR. PHIL MCGRAW: And then having the skills, the abilities, the support systems, the intuitions, the insights, the understandings to actually be your own boss are two very different things. Everybody wants to be their own boss, but being able to do it successfully are two very different things.
DR. PHIL MCGRAW: They always say that it's getting out of the comfort zone, taking that risk that keeps them settling for what they don't want instead of reaching for what they do want.
Amy Porterfield: I had no boundaries. I was working my life away and I hated the business I created. I hated the position I put myself in. So how do you boss yourself? How do you go out on your own and not step right back into being an employee?
Stop looking around for permission and just say, I'll figure this out.
Amy Porterfield: I've always thought that I needed a man. I thought that I needed a man to help me make decisions. And it started with my dad and then all these male bosses.
DR. PHIL MCGRAW: And that's what when you said, “Hey, burn it down, I can build it back because I've got that information”. That's when you become independent.
Amy Porterfield: Absolutely. And that's when life begins to change.

QUOTES:
When you know your “WHY”, on the toughest days of building your business you are able to pull from that, and I’m telling you if you haven’t experienced it already, there are some tough days ahead. Every entrepreneur that’s been at this for a while knows that.
But I don’t think you need a big, lofty, really from-the-heart “why” in terms of “I’m changing lives and I’m transforming mindsets” in the very beginning…👇
All of that is good but when you’re just starting out you don’t need that as your why. In the beginning my “why” was simply a need for freedom. I didn’t want to report to a boss. And over the years that has changed because as we grow our why will get even bigger and a whole lot better with us! 💛

MAKE MORE MONEY, WORK WHERE YOU WANT,
AND CHANGE THE WORLD
THE 10 CONCERNS OF STARTING:
1. I don’t know exactly what business I want to start.
2. I/my spouse/my partner is worried the bills won’t
get paid.
3. I’m afraid to put myself out there—what if I fail?
4. I don’t have any capital to get started.
5. I’m afraid I can’t do it.
6. When I think of going out on my own, I can only
see the ways it could go terribly wrong—I can’t
even imagine myself succeeding.
7. I’m afraid of what my family and friends will think
when I tell them of my plans. I don’t think I’ll have
the support I need to take the leap.
8. Deep down I don’t believe that I could ever
make a full-time income in a business I created
from scratch.
9. Other people are already doing what I want to do,
and they are already successful at it. There’s
no room for me.
10. I just don’t think I am ready. Maybe I should
revisit this in a year or two when my life will feel
less messy.
